Sean M. Monaghan earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at University of California Santa Cruz in 1983.  He opended Donatello’s Gelato Cafe later that summer with two business partners, while continuing his studio art practice.  In 1986 Sean opened three Donatello’s locations in Tokyo, Japan, designing the cafes, uniforms, calendars, fans, delivery vehicles, etc.  The original Santa Cruz cafe was one of the many casualties in downtown Santa Cruz caused by the Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989.  He returned to school to study engineering and physics, and opened the Bronze Works Foundry in 1992.  In 2000 he earned his Master of Fine Arts degree with emphasis in Spatial Arts from California State University San Jose.  Sean currently works as a foundry operator and artist, and teaches sculpture at Cabrillo College and the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Sean’s reputation for outstanding workmanship and artistry has led to a growing demand for his work.  He has been commissioned by hundreds of clients, including artists, designers, organizations and municipalities for a wide variety of projects, as illustrated in the galleries below.
